What are Amarillo South LIFE GROUPS All About?
LIFE GROUP =
8-12 adults led by a trained facilitator meeting weekly among the community in order to pursue the four purposes.
purpose #1 : Build Friendship
In Genesis 2, God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone..." And it is still "not good" today! The number of friendships one builds in the first six months of church involvement indicates the degree of long-term success in that body. Life Groups are our primary method of encouraging these vital friendships to form.
purpose #2 : Develop Spiritually
Making a faith commitment to Christ is only the beginning of our spiritual journey. Discipleship is a life-long pathway, and we need spiritual friends in our lives speaking truth from God's Word and their own experiences to help us follow God's path. Our ultimate goal is for all of us to "come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the LORD." Life Group is a great environment in which to hear God's call to take that next step toward living like Jesus.
purpose #3 : Practice Love & Service
"Freely you have received; freely give." Ultimately, spiritual growth is about learning to give to others as freely as we have received from God. Maturity means a life of love, service, and giving to others. Jesus said, "It is better to give than to receive." Life Group is a place where each one practice using their own special gift and abilities to be a blessing to others in Jesus name.
purpose #4 : Multiply God's Work
One of God's first commands to man was to "be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth." Whatever good things God is doing in our midst, we want to "expand our tents" so He can do His work in new lives and new places. So we always have an empty chair in Life Group for the next person God wants to include in community. We are always encouraging new Life Groups to form, and for emerging leaders to step forward into greater roles of service to others in the context of Life Groups.
